Solving has recently delivered two sets of air film equipment to the new Volvo Cars Safety Centre in Sweden.

With the help of a moving test track, carried on Solving air bearings, crashes between two cars moving towards each other can be carried out from all possible angles and speeds. The 90 m long track weighs over 600 tonnes and is moved with the help of six specially-built air film transporters.

The other Solving equipment is an air film system consisting of air film planks and remote controlled drive units for moving the 850-tonne crash barrier used for crash tests. Despite its tremendous weight, it is easy to move the 4-metre high barrier around inside the crash laboratory on the air bearings. This means, amongst other things, that the block can be placed with precision at any angle and position in relation to the vehicle to be tested - yet another way of ensuring that the crash tests are as close to reality as possible.
