Airbus flies low
In autumn 1999 Daimler Chrysler Aerospace Airbus GmbH, Germany installed an 18-metre long air film-based transport system from Solving. The system is used for loading autoclaves during the manufacture of aircraft components.
The components are placed by crane on a 23-metre long wheeled truck close to the autoclave. The Solving equipment drives under the truck and moves it on a thin film of air in front of the autoclave. The truck is then moved into the autoclave where the components are hardened.
By using Solving air film technology the entire assembly area can be fully utilised. The alternative would have been a railed system with switches cast in the floor. Now the floor surface can be kept clean and free from obstructions, which is an obvious advantage in this kind of industrial environment.
